What is a PICC freeze?
A PICC freeze is like a lock that you put on your long
distance service so that nobody except you can switch it. In other words if you
had AT&T as your long distance carrier, and you put a PICC freeze on your
line, then you cannot switch away from AT&T unless you specifically call
your local phone company and cancel the PICC freeze before you apply to switch
long distance service. PICC freezes are put on by, and cancelled by you through
your local phone company only. Long distance companies cannot add or
remove PICC freezes directly.
If you have a PICC freeze on your phone line then you will need to take the
following steps before you sign up:
- Call your local phone company and remove the PICC freeze (do
not try calling your long distance company to so this)
- The operator will ask you who you want to switch your long distance to, or if you have a PICC
code for your new carrier.
- Tell them that you do not have the PICC code
and that we (Everdial) will contact them with that information
shortly.
- Then sign up for the everdial plan of your choice
- After 5 business days call 1-700-555-4141 ( a toll free call), if you get the message
"Thanks for choosing Primus" then you are switched to Everdial
- Call your local phone company and put the PICC freeze back on
This is the recommended way to deal with a PICC freeze, however if you need to get
switched in a hurry then follow these steps:
- Sign up online for everdial
- Wait until the following morning (weekdays only) and call us at 1-800-263-6690
- We will make sure your application is processed and then give you the PICC code to give to your local phone company.
